Solving problems requires collaboration; Always challenge your assumptions
Many of the problems facing the world today require big changes. In order to make those big changes we have to start working together more, but now the world seems more divided than ever. So how do we start breaking down barriers so we can listen, understand and collaborate to find solutions?
Dalia Mogahed gives an inspiring TED Talk that discusses challenging your assumptions. She simply asks, “What do you think when you look at me?” As a Muslim scholar she knows this question can illicit very different responses. The important part is that we all begin to challenge our own perceptions of the people and places around us.
Study Abroad gives you an amazing opportunity to do just this. You’re surrounded by people that might be different than you in terms of their values and their customs. Are you quick to judge someone on the surface as good or bad simply because of your perception? Or do you seek to understand more about them and their perspective?
How will you challenge your assumptions on Study Abroad?
